From the Director
Dear Peacemakers:
We are working to Increase Public Education & Outreach -
Meet THE BUFFALO ACTIVIST:
The WNY Peace Center is proud to announce that we are revamping our newsletter and expanding our audience! The newsletter will now be called “The Buffalo Activist, A Publication of the WNY Peace Center” and will be an online publication as well as a quarterly print addition mailed to members and dropped off at local businesses. The Peace Center’s members are known for a wealth of knowledge and insight into peace and justice issues today as well as great writing about them, and we want to take full advantage of this organizational strength.
Deadline for Submission is Wednesday, April 22, noon, to Irene at morrmi26@gmail.com.
Please submit articles to us. There is no word limit for articles published in the online version, and there are also forums and blog opportunities for more prolific writers. If you would like your article to be considered for the print publication as well, see below and attached
for guidelines! The new website and print publication will be launched next month, and the submission deadline for the print version is April 22nd (notify that your submission is on its way a week before the deadline, please).
In Peace,
Elea Mihou
Executive Director

***The Buffalo Activist Newsletter Submission Style Sheet***
For all article submissions
Submissions are accepted in the following format:
1. 12-point Times New Roman
2. In a .doc, .docx (MS Word formats), or .rtf (rich text format)
3. Although a longer article may be submitted for the online
newsletter, the version for print must not exceed the word-limit.
4. Please name the document with your last name, the date (mo-yr), and
whether it is for print or online i.e. smith05-09print.doc or
smith07-09online.doc and email it as an attachment to the editor. Printed
documents are not accepted.
5. All print and online versions of articles are subject to editing.
For non-lead articles
Notify the editor that you will be submitting an article and the topic of the article at least one week before the deadline for layout purposes. Late articles will not be accepted. If a submitted article cannot make it into the print version because there is not enough room, it will be
published in the online newsletter. The print version of your article may not exceed 300 words, unless the editor has asked for more (unless it is a LASC article, in which case word
count and content is determined by LASC). There is no word limit on the
online version, and a link will be provided at the end of your article in
the print version. In general, try to make both versions the same.
For lead articles
The editor may ask for a lead article or a writer may propose one. A proposal for a lead article should be submitted at least three weeks before the print deadline. A proposal can be given verbally to the editor, emailed, or partially-written as a .doc/.rtf. Once accepted as a lead
article, submitting on time is very important! If an article is not accepted as a lead, it may be submitted as a non-lead article and published online. The article may be 1,000-1,400 words and may have a longer version for the online newsletter.
Image submissions
All images must be submitted in .tif format. Do not submit copyrighted images unless you hold the copyright. If the image is meant for a specific article, indicate that on the name of the image after your last name: ex. “smith-img1.tif” or if there is more than one image, “smith-img2.tif” etc. If it is an image not meant for an article, use the original name of the
image.
